All about Greens

Is your dog eating his veggies? Fruits and vegetables should be included in your dog’s diet as they are a great source of vitamins and anti-oxidants.  Most of the commercial pet foods are highly processed and the vitamins present are not from whole foods, but synthetic or chemically modified vitamins. If your dog is eating processed canned or dry dog food, add some steamed chopped vegetables like kale, broccoli or spinach into his supper dish. Spinach and broccoli is rich in Vitamin C and K and other minerals like folic acid and iron. Root vegetables like pumpkin, carrots and sweet potatoes are an excellent source of vitamin A. Dogs have a short digestive system and therefore it is important to ensure that vegetables are finely chopped, mashed or pureed for easy digestibility.  You can add mashed steamed pumpkin and sweet potatoes to your dog’s food. Carrots and potatoes should be grated or chopped into small pieces before cooking.  Alfafa, parsley, wheatgrass, red peppers and cucumbers can be chopped finely and fed raw, mixed with the main meal. We like to sprinkle some finely chopped raw organic greens like alfafa and wheatgrass mixed with our dog’s meals before serving.  Wheatgrass for example is widely recognized as a superfood and is packed with highly concentrated vitamins, minerals, chlorophyll and enzymes.

Another excellent source of greens for your pet is pet grass. Do you know you can grow your own pet grass using our Gourmet Pet Grass Growing Kit which contains a nutritious mix of millet and wheatgrass grains? This is a comprehensive growing kit for pet owners who want to grow organic fresh grass for their pets’ consumption. Remember, fresh food is the best and can never be replaced by the myriad of commercial vitamins and minerals. For more information on our Pocket Greens, do visit our website www.pawsfurlife.com.
