Our Services
The massage is performed in the comfort of your dog’s own home. This eliminates the fear and anxiety your dog may exhibit at being in a new place. Thus, they will feel more relaxed and comfortable, gaining the full benefits from each massage session
Please do not feed your dog an hour prior to the massage. We will bring along a massage mat.
For the initial consultation, someone who can answer detailed questions about the dog, and who can lead him/her for the assessment is required. For the massage portion, and for subsequent sessions, you are welcome to be in the room, but are not required. Often an owner will attend at the beginning to report any changes or concerns, then will carry on with their day’s activities, checking back in occasionally. After the massage, it is ideal for the dog to have some light exercise e.g. go for a walk.
During the first session, we will discuss some basic info about your dog’s medical history and current lifestyle; an assessment is done (basic functional conformation, tone, and tolerance to touch), followed by a short visual gait assessment to determine how the dog is using his or her body. We will then perform the massage.
Most of the time, the answer is yes. Keep in mind that every dog is unique so there are quite a variety of reactions. Some will fall asleep during a session while some leave extremely invigorated. No matter which of these categories (or somewhere in between) your dog falls in to, the result will benefit their overall well being.
Sometimes, especially during a first massage, your dog may be unsure of the intention of the massage. It’s not uncommon at all for a dog to be overwhelmed at first, but the uncertainty generally goes away and then he/she starts to enjoy the massage.
Some dogs are very sensitive to touch, or are defensive and lack trust. Touch therapy can be a very effective method to calm a dog, promote a trusting relationship, and encourage a dog to allow and enjoy massage. Sometimes it can take a few sessions for the dog to learn to trust and relax. The massage will be tailored to your dog’s needs. We have to respect what the dog wants and not impose ourselves on them!
Each animal are all different and have their own unique sets of conditions and circumstances. All of these factors help determine the appropriate schedule for your massage plan.
Your best friend’s health is priceless. Massage provides a safe, natural, non-invasive method of maintaining your animal’s optimal health and quality of life. Regular massage sessions may, in some circumstances, reduce the frequency of veterinary visits or the need for medication or more invasive, painful treatments. Today, many veterinarians recommend massage therapy as a supplement to their health care treatments.
